Music for lunch

The 2008 Music for the Lunch Bunch series will open Thursday, June 19. Organist Kelley Garris and vocalist Carolyn Crumpler will perform at 12:15 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 202 S. 4th St., Smithfield. Admission is free; donations are accepted.

Garris is in her 25th year as minister of music at First Baptist Church in Smithfield. She received her undergraduate degrees in organ performance and religion from Meredith College in 1982 and her master’s in organ performance from the University of Kansas in 1983. She is married to Greg Garris, and they have three sons, Evan, Madison, and Cameron.

Crumpler has studied piano under Kay Wiggins and voice under Sue Wallace. She is a member of First Baptist Church in Smithfield, where she sings in the Sanctuary Choir and plays in the Handbell Choir. Crumpler is a cosmetologist. She enjoys sewing, quilting and playing with her grandchildren.

‘Putting It Back’

A production of “Putting It Back, the Reunion,” is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at the Family Life Center, 909 E. Lee St., Smithfield. The play, written and directed by Chris Gibson, is about addiction and domestic violence. Admission is $5.

Country music in Selma

The next Country Tonight Music Show is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Friday, June 20, at The Ice House Theatre, 112 N. Webb St., Selma. The Country Tonight Band, featuring Mike Baker, Charlie Flowers and Ginger Thompson, will perform.

General admission is $10. For reserved seating, which is $12, call (252) 237-6199. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Music in Smithfield

Ragged Company will perform from 7 till 9 p.m. Friday, June 20, at Orchard House Booksellers, 117 N. 3rd St., Smithfield. Admission is free.

Singing Convention

The 88th State Annual Singing Convention will be held June 20-22 in the “Singing Grove" in Benson. Many semi-professional and amateur groups will appear. There will also be concerts at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday. A worship service will take place at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Artwork in Clayton

Artwork by William Breazeale and Julee Thompson is on display through June 30 at The Clayton Center, 111 E. 2nd St., Clayton. Breazeale is a painter. Thompson is a mixed-media artist. For more information, call 553-1737.
