Johnston County will play host to six different Tar Heel Leagues Inc. state championship events beginning Thursday.

All four Tar Heel state softball tournaments will be held this weekend, with tournaments set for Smithfield Community Park, Selma Middle School, Four Oaks Civitan Field, the Princeton Little League Fields and Smithfield-Selma High School.

On the baseball side of things, the Coach-Pitch state finals will be held in Princeton. Two Johnston County teams are in the field: North Johnston and Cleveland.

All Tar Heel Leagues Inc. state tournaments feature double-elimination play.

North Johnston, which won the District V title, opens play at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday against the District III champions, while Cleveland meets the District VII champs at the same time on another field. Championship round play begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

In the State Senior Division (ages 16-18), Johnston County will open play at 6 p.m. on Thursday night at SSS’s Spartan Field. The championship round in the eight-team double-elimination is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Smithfield Community Park’s Field No. 4.

The 8U softball state championship tournament will be held at Smithfield Community Park as well. Johnston County has two teams in the field: Johnston County and the Johnston County Athletic Association. The JCAA opens the tournament at 2:30 on Thursday against Rolesville; Johnston County takes on Granite Falls later that afternoon (5:30). The championship round begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday as well.

The 10U softball field includes 14 teams in action at Smithfield Community Park, including Johnston County South and Johnston County North. JC North meets Wilder’s Grove in its opener at 4 p.m. on Thursday. JC South takes on Rolesville at the same time on a separate field.

Championship round play starts Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

There are 15 teams vying for the 12U softball title at the Four Oaks Civitan Fields and Smithfield Community Park.

Locally, JCAA American and JCAA National are in the field and both open tournament play in Four Oaks. JCAA American takes on Rolesville at 4 p.m. on Thursday, while JCAA National meets Granite Falls at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

The championship round will be Sunday at 3:30 at Smithfield Community Park.

The six-team 14U field will play at Selma Middle School, Thursday through Saturday. Johnston County opens the tournament Thursday at 2 p.m. against Western Harnett. The championship round begins Saturday at 10 a.m. Admission each day is $3 for adults, $1 for ages 6-12 and free for those five and under.
